The European Commission has announced the launch of the “Equality platform for the energy sector”, which will be established in October 2021, and calls on organisations, governments, the private sector, academia, and civil society to join it.
“An inclusive and diverse environment, which encourages the full potential of a wide range of stakeholders and individuals, is central to achieving the EU’s ambition of a clean energy transition”.
With this initiative, the Commission aims to bring together energy stakeholders in their commitment towards equality and offer a forum of discussion and exchange. This commitment relates to all aspects of equality and inclusion, such as gender, sex, ethnic origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, or religion or belief.
At the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) on 25 October 2021 the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson will officially launch the platform with a panel discussion with high-level representatives of the EU institutions, EU countries, and stakeholders on equality in the energy sector.
Before the official launch, the Commission is asking stakeholders in the EU energy sector that are interested to join the platform if they wish to be at the forefront of change in the energy sector by creating innovative approaches and developing inclusive and diverse environments that support progress.
To do so they should send an e-mail to ENER-EQUALITY@ec.europa.eu and flag their interest. The e-mail subject should be “Equality platform – reply to the call to action”. The body of the email should include a description of the actions implemented to promote equality in the organisation’s activities. Besides, the actions should be SMART – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound.
